When we were ready to go Dad went to bring the car but instead of backing up the street he drove round the block, which took a very long time [ed – including driving up a hill out of town…] . On the drive we saw a dozen castles. In Heidelberg we had lunch then went to the castle and learnt about the medecine through the ages. Then I bought a flail. Soon we went to a wine place in the castle. Finally we had a Italian dinner.
This morrning we left Cologne and drove to Boppard. When we reached the castle at Braubach we went inside. The interesting part about the castle is that no part of it was destroyed since the middle ages. Luckily we got a full english group because you have to go on a tour. Then we came to Boppard, we had dinner and then went on a little walk.
Our first stop was the point were Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands meet and we had lunch there. When we got to Cologne we went to the cathedral, it was massive. Before we got there we went to a museum.
Finally we had dinner at a Vietnamese place.
We began our travel from Bruges in Belgium to Aachen in Germany and soon came to a picnic site and had lunch. Next we drove through the Netherlands to Germany. In Aachen we walked to a beautiful church. The first meal I had in Germany was a salad but then had schnitzel.
The first thing we did was go to the market and bought some strawberries. Then we went to a chocolate museum and learnt that Belgian chocolate is so delicious because it has to be other wise it can’t be called chocolate. Next we went to the Basilica of the Holy Blood. Finally we bought some chocolate.
We had breakfast then went to the museum until 11:30. then packed up and saw the big Menin arch. Then went to Hill 60 and saw a very big crater. Finally we went to a trench and got a real bullet from the man who had excavated it. He found equipment, grenades, mortar shells, gas masks and hundreds of dead bodies. Some of these things we had seen in the museum earlier.
Now we are are in Bruges.
We started our drive this morning then stopped for a break to see the ANZAC memorial museum in Villers-Bretonneux. Next we went to the Australian National war memorial. When we stopped for lunch we went to The Museum of The Great War. Now I am in Ypres in Belgium.
We are just about to go to dinner after going to the Notre Dame cathedral in Rouen. We got there by walking up a street with a golden clock at the end. Tomorrow we are going to the world war 1 battle fields. 
Yesterday the ferry was more than one hour late, but we got to the terminal for the normal time and had to go back home.
We are just preparing to go. We are driving from Saint-Malo to Rouen. The corridor in the hotel looks like it goes on forever. We had a french breakfast.
We are going to France today, from Jersey. I haven’t done anything except help Mum and Dad pack and get ready to go. We have finished preparing for the first trip in Europe.
Nothing is going to happen today, except catch the ferry and prepare for our holiday.
I am looking forward to going to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva.
